On Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 7-8:30pm we hosted a moderated panel followed by small group discussions on quantum technologies and their relevance to international affairs. The panel featured Mark Ritter (Chair of Physical Science Council at IBM Research) and Robert Schoelkopf (Sterling Professor of Applied Physics and Professor of Physics; Director of Yale Quantum Institute). Both panelists are members of the U.S. National Quantum Initiative Advisory Committee.
Attendees learned about the main types of modern quantum applications (sensing, communications, and computing), practical benefits and risks posed by these technologies, and implications for international relations. The panel will also provide insight into U.S. government policy on quantum tech.
The event was open to Yale community members of all disciplines and levels of expertise.
Program partners: Department of Political Science, Department of Physics, Wright Laboratory, Jackson’s International Security Studies Program, Yale Quantum Institute.
